Black and White Films Kodak: This is a medium-speed (ISO 100/21°) panchromatic film that features very fine grain. It is well suited for portraiture and close-up work with electronic flash. It is also an excellent choice for commercial, industrial, and scientific applications with daylight or tungsten light.
This is a medium-speed (ISO 125 / 22°) film recommended for general studio use, particularly when a high degree of enlargement is needed. It offers excellent separation of highlight tones and very fine grain. You can retouch the emulsion or the base side.
This is a high-speed (ISO 400/27°) panchromatic film that is a good choice for photographing dimly lighted subjects or fast action, for photographing subjects that require good depth of field and fast shutter speeds, and for extending the distance range for flash pictures. TRI-X Pan Film is recommended for push-processing applications.
This is Kodak's slowest and finest-grained black-and-white film for pictorial photography (when developed in KODAK TECHNIDOL Liquid Developer). It is a variable-contrast panchromatic film with extended red sensitivity; because of its extended red sensitivity, it yields prints with a gray-tone rendering slightly different from that produced by other panchromatic films. (This is most noticeable in portraits, in which it suppresses blemishes.) Ilford: This is a medium speed, black and white film, ideal for pictorial and fine art photography. Prints made from this film exposed at EI 100/21 have extremely fine grain and outstanding sharpness. Its exposure latitude allows good quality results to be obtained over the exposure range EI 50/18 to EI 200/24. This is a fast, fine grain black and white film, ideal for pictorial and fine art photography. Compared with 400 DELTA, it has finer grain, better tonal rendition and a true 400 speed. Prints made from 400 DELTA PROFESSIONAL film exposed at EI 400/27 have very fine grain and outstanding sharpness. In fact the results are similar to those expected from a conventional medium speed black and white film. The superb image quality of 400 DELTA PROFESSIONAL means that it is possible to use this film in situations that would usually require a medium speed film. Its EI 400/27 speed rating, however, allows the use of higher shutter speeds or greater depth of field than with a medium speed film while giving similar quality results. Additionally, the fast speed of 400 DELTA PROFESSIONAL ensures excellent results in low lighting conditions. 400 DELTA PROFESSIONAL is more than an ISO 400/27° film. Its exposure latitude allows good quality results to be obtained over the exposure range EI 200/24 to EI 1600/33. 400 DELTA PROFESSIONAL is compatible with all major processing systems and can be processed in all popular developers. This is an exceptionally fine grain, medium speed black and white film. Compared with FP4, it has finer grain and shorter processing times. When given standard development it has a speed rating of ISO 125/22° to daylight. FP4 Plus has a high acutance emulsion which, combined with its fine grain and exposure latitude, ensures superlative quality—the ideal film to use for all high quality indoor and outdoor photography, particularly when giant enlargements are to be made. FP4 Plus is versatile and will give useable results even if it is overexposed by as much as six stops, or underexposed by two stops. FP4 Plus is compatible with all major processing systems including those that give the standard short fixing and washing times. FP4 Plus is very robust during processing, giving excellent results under most conditions, and will also tolerate processing conditions that are less than ideal. This is a fast black and white film. It is ideal for action, available light
and general-purpose photography. It is designed to give optimum results under
most lighting conditions and when processed in a wide range of developers. HP5
Plus is rated at ISO 400/27° when exposed to daylight. It has the fine grain,
good edge contrast and sharpness required to give excellent image quality. These
characteristics give prints with outstanding brightness and a full tonal range.
HP5 Plus, though, is more than an ISO 400/27° film. By extending development
with some developers, for example ILFORD ILFOTEC HC and ILFORD MICROPHEN, it is
possible to use meter settings up to EI 3200/36. This makes HP5 Plus the ideal
film for all photography where factors such as poor lighting and moving subjects
demand greatest emulsion sensitivity. HP5 Plus is very robust during processing,
giving excellent results under most conditions, and will also tolerate
processing conditions that are less than ideal. Agfa: Black and white reversal film (for the AGFA SCALA process) Applications:
